Throughout my twenties I honestly didn’t really place much importance on luxury. I was newly wed, happy and spending every penny of my hard earned cash on rent/mortgage/home improvements. A few weeks after turning 30 I gave birth to our first child, and the next few years were spent happily putting the children’s needs above my own. Now the children are getting a little older and becoming more self sufficient, having a little luxury in my every day is something that’s become far more important to me.
To me luxury is anything that feels like a little treat, anything that makes you feel good about yourself. I’m still not great at looking after myself, my hairdresser’s appointment get left an embarrassing amount of time, and I only make it to the beauty therapists in a mad dash the day before a holiday (this is something I must rectify) – however I do recognise the little things in life that aid my sense of well being. Buying fresh flowers for the house, taking the dog for a walk on my own, sitting in the garden for 10 minutes on a beautiful morning with my face to the sun. It doesn’t have to be a huge extravagance to make you feel a little brighter, lift the spirits and energise you for the day.
Time to myself has become one of my biggest luxuries. And I don’t mean time on my own – I get plenty of that when the kids are at school and the child minders and I spend hours at the computer or doing photoshoots at home. I mean time to please myself. A few moments to drink a coffee in peace, or walk in the fresh air without having small people asking for a carry, or chatting (slash moaning) relentlessly is perfect bliss.
When Radley contacted me and asked me to talk a little about my every day luxury, this was immediately what I knew I was going to do. An hour on my own in a beautiful cafe, sipping a latte, leafing through a newspaper, replying to text messages that I never seem to get around to.. blissful! I think the key to being happier through these little luxuries is life, is recognising what they are and remembering to take pleasure in them.
Radley have introduced a range of premium, heritage inspired leather handbags with exactly this in mind – a little every day luxury and a moment of pleasure. Each item is designed as an investment piece to treasure forever and will only improve with time. Believe me its a rather lovely thing to be able to walk around with one on your arm! I chose the Grosvenor medium flap over shoulder bag and the Matinee large slim flap over purse from their range, both in tan these are indeed timeless classics. The leather is soft and supple, the detailing is beautiful. I will take pleasure in these details every time I use them – from the little scotty dog emblem, the tiny brass studs on the handbag straps, the firm clunk of the magnets holding the flap in place. It’s these well thought through details that make me a happy owner, and make these pieces ones that will last a lifetime.
Whether it’s having fresh flowers in your home, baking a cake, having a nap on a Sunday, wearing your favourite shoes or having a delicious coffee in complete peace, Radley would like you to share your every day luxury. And the best bit? They will give one winner the most luxurious of prizes – not only will they send you the Grosvenor bag and the Matinee purse the same as mine, you will also win a night’s stay at the stunning Bank House Hotel, Worcester with your partner. The hotel stay includes dinner for two, full access to the spa and a 60 minute spa treatment of your choice! Each!

I have to say that me time is my absolute treat too. With a 2 week old and a toddler, my other every day treat is a hot shower… but I really didn’t want to subject instagram to a photo related to that! Ha ha! Good luck everyone xx
