4 from Rabat and 4 from Mdina, known as The Silent

4 from Rabat and 4 from Mdina, known as The Silent City. Mdina is an amazing fortified medieval town, and the whole place feels like a museum. Rabat, just a short walk away was apparently built as a suburb to Mdina, by people who couldn’t afford to live within the bastions but still wanted to use the city walls for protection.
The two towns have quite different characters and are both well worth a visit! You can easily cover both in a day.
I haven’t even come close to looking at my Amsterdam photos yet, so I’m sticking with Malta for now!

Some favourites from the beautiful city of Valletta 😊🇲🇹
The street you can see in the first and third pictures I thought was the most beautiful I saw, and that magical thing in photography happened when you get half an hour undisturbed and no one comes by at all. No idea why as it was right below the Barakka Gardens (view in picture 2) which was crowded! Lucky for us 🥰

Tulips and hot cross buns - two of my favourite things about March 🌷😊
I do find savouring the little things somehow helps to slow down the huge cogs of time that just keep turning! My youngest has got his secondary school place, and my eldest is choosing his GSCE options. Time marches on and it puts things into perspective! I’m excited for the next chapter for both of them though and I think they’ll benefit from the changes coming.
Wishing you all the happy weekend - I think I will mother’s-day-treat myself to some of those chocolate and salted caramel hot cross buns. Now there’s a plan! 🥰

These are from our trip across the water to the 3 cities (you can read more on that on my last reel if you want to). In the video from the boat you can see the pink domes that are all over the island. So pretty! Amongst all the warm stone and blue accents of balconies and window frames. I can’t believe we’ve been home over a week! Still lots more photos to edit and post from this trip 💛💙💛

One day in Valetta 🇲🇹 We spent our first day

One day in Valetta 🇲🇹
We spent our first day in Malta in the capital city of Valetta. The whole city is a unesco world heritage site, due to the incredible amount of historical importance in such a small area. It really is beautiful, and easy to walk around in a couple of hours.
We had lunch in the square near the statue of Queen Victoria, and bought beautiful cakes to eat sitting on a bench in the sunshine.
We walked around the Upper Barreka Gardens and listened to the cannon fire at midday. We almost got the 58m high lift down but didn’t have 3 euros (story of my life) so we took the stairs 😅
We took a small boat across to the 3 cities and due to a misunderstanding (or got fleeced?!) ended up being charged €30 for a harbour tour instead of the advertised €2 each for a straight crossing… Verify costs before getting onboard folks! I’d only drawn out €20. We made our apologies and scurried away.
We strolled the 3 cities and stumbled across a huge film crew (apparently a television adaptation of The Wives book)
We wised up and took the ferry back across, and thankfully they took card 😂
All in all an amazing and very happy day! Valetta is truly gorgeous and the 3 cities are not to be missed if you go. The streets are so charming.
Parking is free in the whole of Malta, apart from in the capital. So don’t drive in to the city walls, as you’ll have to pay a congestion charge as well. Park on street outside the walls for free, or in one of small car parks and you may be asked for a donation.
Carry cash. The end 😅

I remember saying to the kids when we were in Fran

I remember saying to the kids when we were in France in October to soak up that warmth as we’d be craving it by February. Today was actually weirdly mild, but every year I get lulled into a false sense of security and I stop wearing warm clothes and winter boots, and then basically shiver until May when it actually warms up for real!
It’s half term here next week, and the draw of a little warmth was too much - we’re escaping for a couple of days, to a country we’ve never been to before. Hopefully with pretty towns to explore! 🇲🇹

A new year feels to me like a blank sheet of paper

A new year feels to me like a blank sheet of paper that has to somehow be filled. With your best work yet. No pressure 😂

I’m still busy editing my photos from France and I keep coming across ones that make me smile. It’s amazing how many you take in 2.5 weeks when it’s your job to take photos all day!
Here’s a selection from a very stormy day in Antibes. You can’t tell from the photos but it was wild! The kids were fantastic and I’m so glad they were involved in this project. Of course there were perks for them 🍦and they loved hanging out with the crew. Swipe for some behind the scenes too. My youngest had a captive audience for his joke telling ☺️
