Mother’s Day Gift Guide

I’m very lucky that because of my job I get to see lots of beautiful products and places these days. Of course if you live in a nice town or city with interesting independent shops, then hooray! However most of us live near the usual run of the mill high street shops and finding more interesting gift ideas can be tricky. I used to spend a long time scouring the internet for gifts that were a little unusual or different, but luckily now there is Instagram! I’m not going to wang on about being a Mum or why you might be looking for a Mother’s Day gift, I’m just going to share with you some of the loveliest things I’ve come across recently. So if you are looking for something for a special Mum, then here are some ideas.

Axel and Ash Journals

Wanderlusting seems to be a favourite past time for most of us at the moment, and these beautiful journals from Axel and Ash would make a great Mother’s Day gift. The Bondi based design duo have created these gorgeous travel journals which are perfect for planning and recording your adventures. Priced at around £23 you can either buy them directly from the Axel and Ash website or take a look at their list of stockists.

The Future Mapping Company

Maps are pretty special aren’t they? I have always loved maps, and used to spend hours looking at them when they came in for to the workshop when I worked as a picture framer. The Future Mapping Company is a small team of designers based in East London, and they produce truly beautiful maps the are a little different, with stunning use of colour. I chose the magnetic version of this world map which is a little more expensive, but I love that we can mark where we have been. The kids are smitten with this and love seeing how big the world is! You can purchase this particular map from £35, and there are tons of other choices and maps to suit all budgets.

Papier

Personally I can never write enough lists. I have several lists on the go at all times. I am also a stationary freak and believe every handbag should have a notepad and pen in it, you never know when you’ll need to jot down a blog post idea, a good quote, make a list, play hangman on a train, or let’s face it, district your kids while you have a quiet pint! Papier do the most stunning range of notebooks which can be personalised too, they are priced at £12.99 and you can see the full range here.

Aide de Camp

Whilst we are on the topic of bags, one thing I have learnt in the last three years is you can never have enough camera bags! Seriously, I need them in all shapes and sizes. Probably two for every occasion 😉 This one from Aide de Camp is a complete treat, I’m absolutely in love and it’s actually helping me to take my camera out a lot more often. Priced at £156.25 it would be a very generous gift, but trust me the recipient would be thrilled and in my experience you get what you pay for with items like this.

Geo Fleur Plant Subscription

I’m not about to tell you not to buy flowers, always buy flowers! I’m a strong believer that flowers make an amazing gift and aren’t at all a cop out present. However for something a little more unusual this Mother’s Day, how about a plant subscription from Geo Fleur? This is one for the UK only, as they send out real live plants (and sometimes other gorgeous plant paraphernalia) from their East London studio. I have received succulents, an air plant, a gorgeous macrame hanger, a brass mister.. you never know what you’re going to get but it’s always something delightful! You can purchase a recurring subscription from £55.

Burleigh Pottery

I think it’s fair to assume we all enjoy having something pretty to drink our tea out of and eat our cake off. The pieces from Burleigh are rather special, as each one is hand made in England. I was lucky enough to witness part of this process at an event in November, and it’s really amazing and very skilful. Special pieces that are just beautiful. A cup and saucer would cost around £27.00, you can see their full range here.

Afternoon Tea at Thomas’s at Burberry

I think a little time spent with someone is one of the loveliest gifts that can be given. I know I always treasure memories with someone over most other things, so a day out or an experience is always very much appreciated. Now I wouldn’t normally suggest something that I haven’t actually done yet! However when I looked at the photos from Thomas’s it looked so delightful I thought it was worth including here. I will be going this week so I will hoping be able to update this and add my own photos in! You can see some photos and book at Thomas’s here. If you don’t live near London, there are bound to lovely Mother’s Day afternoons teas to be had near where you are.

update : I went along and it was every bit as wonderful as I expected. Delicious food and the most beautiful interiors, highly recommended!
