Memories of 2015

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

— Aaron Siskind

This quotation pretty much sums it up for me. It’s the little things that help you remember the big things. As I look back through my photographs from 2015 they evoke memories, and sometimes feelings that I’d forgotten, or didn’t even realise I had at the time…

At the beginning of the year I decided I would summarise each month with a collection of pictures. They weren’t necessarily the most liked, but always my personal favourites and ones that meant the most to me. I love the way these grids have punctuated my gallery throughout the year, clearly showing the beginning of a new month, a new chapter. As the seasons change, so do the colours, the tones and the subjects matters I photograph. I’m amazed looking back, at how obvious it is at a glance where each month’s grid would lie in the time line of 2015.

January 2015

January 2015

What a cold and sparkly beginning to the year it was. I had some wonderful outdoor moments with my kids, and I absolutely loved the soft winter light, the fog, the frost, and even one snowy morning.

February 2015

February 2015

A birthday cake, a trip to Yorkshire, pancake day, and best of all we had the #shineonyoucrayumbrella to play with!

March 2015

March 2015

My bluest month, March was filled with blossom, blue skies, and the promise of Spring and warmer days. Looking at these pictures now, I can clearly remember how excited I felt that we had the whole Summer ahead of us.

April 2015

April 2015

A wonderful day out in London, an amazing holiday in Portugal, flowers and blossom galore. A month filled with happy outdoor moments with the boys, and some of my favourite pictures ever of them chasing the rainbow kite. I will never forget their giggles!

May 2015

May 2015

Pink, pink pink! A time where there seemed to be so much to photograph, the world was filled with flowers and colour! Topped off with an adventurous weekend in Paris which was actually one of my highlights of the year. Isn’t it funny how something which seemed rather stressful at the time, can give us some of the strongest and most positive memories.

June 2015

June 2015

Ah the poppies, the daisies, the meadows full of buttercups bloomed. I had so much fun exploring these fields with my children. I also tried something clever with two iPhones 😉

My absolute favourite month without question. The flow of colours, the light, the memories. This section of my gallery remains my favourite part of my entire Instagram.

July 2015

July 2015

So much rain, but still so many beautiful wild flowers and the fields bursting with ripening crops. The school holidays allowed me more time to photograph both my children, and it was lovely to see more of the eldest in my gallery again.

August 2015

August 2015

The colours of Summer continued although there was a strong feel of Autumn approaching in the air. Our family holiday in Northumberland was one of the happiest times of the year for me. I also took my favourite picture of 2015, that wheat field cuddle.

September 2015

September 2015

Misty mornings, a few remaining flowers, and the appearance of the first Autumn colours. Some of my most popular pictures this year were made with Autumn leaves, and I absolutely loved getting creative in September.

October 2015

October 2015

Autumn was in full swing. Pumpkins, leaves, cosy moments, and one fabulous day out in London with Instagram friends to search for a perfectly pastel wall.

November 2015

November 2015

The last of the Autumn leaves, one magical morning, the first frost and a beautiful weekend in Vienna. November surprised me, the photo opportunities weren’t numerous but they were beautiful.

December 2015

December 2015

Teas, coffees, festive decorations, early blossom, a lovely trip to London and a wonderful weekend in Norfolk. What an amazing end to a year of beautiful moments.

One thing that occurs to me about my year in photos is that its the outdoor moments with my children that mean the most to me.

My favourite photograph of all time is the one of my children cuddling in the middle of the wheat field. I’m pretty sure I dream in those colours. I’m certain those little boys make my dreams come true

Much thought and love has gone into every single one and I feel quite proud looking back at these images. The story of me, the story of what has been a special year in so many ways. I’m very grateful for all the likes, all the kind and thoughtful comments that people leave every day, and each person who chooses to follow along in my little corner of Instagram. Your encouragement is everything to me. This gallery of moments and memories is certainly something I cherish.

So, I wish you all a happy and peaceful 2016,

lots of love,

Hannah x
